This privacy policy explains how Literate Chinese ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects your data in our mobile application. This policy applies to all users, including those who sign in using email, Google, or Apple sign-in options.
Information We Collect
To provide you with a personalized and seamless experience, we collect the following types of information:
- Authentication Information: When you sign in using email, Google, or Apple, we may collect basic account details such as your email address and name. If you use Sign in with Apple, you also have the option to hide your email address.
- User Progress and Preferences: Your learning progress and settings are stored on our secure Firebase servers to enable backup and synchronization across devices.
- App Usage Data: We collect non-personally identifiable data on how you use the app (e.g., time spent on lessons, feature usage) to improve Literate Chinese. This data is collected in an anonymized manner and is not linked to your identity.
Subscription and Payment Information
Literate Chinese offers subscription services that provide access to premium features. All subscription payments are processed directly by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information such as credit card details. Apple handles all payment processing and billing information according to their privacy policy. We only receive information about your subscription status (active, expired, etc.) to provide you with the appropriate app features.
Data Storage and Security
We use Firebase, a robust cloud storage solution provided by Google, to securely store your progress and preferences. This allows your data to be synchronized across multiple devices when you sign in. While your data is stored remotely, we implement appropriate security measures to safeguard your information.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. The data collected is used solely to improve Literate Chinese and provide a better learning experience.
Third-Party Services
We utilize the following third-party services:
- Firebase: For storing user progress and preferences. For more details, please refer to Firebase's Privacy Policy.
- Google and Apple: As authentication providers. Please consult their respective privacy policies for further information on data collection and usage.
- Apple App Store: For subscription payment processing. Apple handles all payment information according to their privacy policy.
Account Management
You can manage your account and update your personal information directly within the app. In accordance with Apple's guidelines, if you sign in using Apple, Google, or email, you have the option to delete your account. Deleting your account will remove your authentication data and associated progress from our servers, although some data may be retained for record-keeping or to comply with legal obligations.
How to Delete Your Account
You can delete your account by navigating to Settings > Account > Delete Account within the Literate Chinese app. This will permanently remove your progress and personal data from our servers. Note that deleting your account does not automatically cancel any active subscriptions - you must cancel your subscription separately through your Apple ID settings.
Children's Privacy
Our app is designed to be safe for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate parental consent. If we discover that a child under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in their country) has provided personal data without parental consent, we will delete it.
Data Retention
We retain user data for as long as necessary to provide the service, unless deletion is requested by the user. Some data may be retained to comply with legal obligations.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any changes will be reflected in this document along with an updated "Last updated" date.
